My husband crash his DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone. How to repair your DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone when it crash is his task

Hubby and I have been feeling sick for a few days now and since it's too cold and raining outside we are just doing little things to keep us busy lol.

He's been working on his DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone that he crashed a couple months ago. He forgot to take it off of beginner mode and somehow got it to fly between some trees. At that point it wouldn't let him maneuver out. The wind blew and caused it to hit branches and flip upside down sending it quickly to the ground.

He figured out what was wrong and now just need to order parts and replace.

  1. You can order the parts from the company or send it to them so they fix for you!

    Had a Question:
Just curious. I flew my v2 12,000 feet and with 70 % battery life left, I returned home. The drone battery was down to 13% about 1500 ft from home point. The drone auto landed and crashed into a tree. I only used 20% to make it 12,000 ft but couldn’t return with 70% left.

    Response:
It could be that there was just some type of firmware or hardware issue that caused it.
I'm not exactly sure how to answer that one. You flew your version 2 phantom pro 12 thousand feet? I really do't have an answer as to why the battery use was less going to 12k feet than it was coming home. If I read your comment correctly I would have said it used 30 percent battery life to get to 12k feet unless it wasn't 100 percent charged.

A couple other things I can think of:
    1. Having the drone 12k feet away from the controller would take additional power for your communications and add that to the fact that winds are much stronger at higher altitudes which would also puts excessive drain on the battery as it attempts to adjust position and level to stay on track and stable.

    2. I wasn't there but it is possible the drone was out of range of the controller at times and didn't properly adjust to fly "home". Maybe a firmware or hardware issues didn't allow it to work properly and caused it to use more battery.

My drone was in beginner mode. I forgot to change it before I took off. I was planning to keep it under the trees and I got it high enough that the wind blew hard and pushed it above an area of branches. At the point I assume the software designed to keep me from crashing was now not allowing me to maneuver out of branches. So it just hovered in place and the next wind pushed it into the branches. It did a great job at trying to recover but after it flipped up side down, the motors drove it directly to the ground.
A wire to the compass was broke off and the landing gear was damaged.
I've pulled it all apart and have the new parts on my desk now. Hope to put up a video on how to repair it and get back to flying this week.

Good luck with your drone. Have you reported your issue to DJI? I hope they will help. They seem to be a good company and have good products so I expect they will do the right things if the problems was internal to the unit.
    take care
